Community leaders invited to disaster preparedness sessions

Volunteer Fairfax has received a grant to facilitate community collaboration to prepare for disaster and is hosting a pilot program in the Mason, Braddock, and Sully districts.

Leaders of community association, HOAs, community-based organizations, nonprofits, PTAs, faith-based groups, and first responders in Mason District are encouraged to attend a seminar and table-top exercise.

The seminar is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 29, 5-8 p.m., at Annandale United Methodist Church, 6935 Columbia Pike, Annandale.

The exercise, to practice what was learned in the seminar, will be Dec. 3, 5-8 p.m., at the Heritage Center, Conference Rooms C and D, 7611 Little River Turnpike, Annandale.

Participants will learn how community groups are critical in a disaster and how to become part of a new Community Resiliency Group.

Both sessions are free and include dinner. Register online. For more information, contact Tracy Friend, emergency response program manager, [email protected]

  1. Oh, boy ~ disaster training! Speaking of disasters – will Penny be there? Will she bring her shiny new trolley? Oh, I forgot. The shiny trolley's in Arlington, not Mason District, right?
