Community meeting scheduled on Annandale redevelopment plan

The Fairfax County Office of Community Revitalization and Reinvestment is seeking community input on proposed changes to the comprehensive plan for the Annandale Community Business Center. Local residents are encouraged to attend a meeting Thursday, April 29, 7-9 p.m., at the Annandale High School auditorium.

The proposed plan would transform Annandale into a pedestrian-friendly “urban village” and would encourage denser, mixed-use developments.

Members of the public will also have a chance at the meeting to review the results of a recent transportation analysis for Annandale and offer feedback on two options for alleviating congestion in the central business area: widening Little River Turnpike or making Little River a one-way road paired with another one-way route.

Community input will guide county planning staff as they develop recommendations for the Fairfax County Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors. [The Annandale blogger will be out of town April 29, so if any readers want to write up a report on the meeting, let me know.]

  1. The Annandale Redevelopment plan does not seem to transform Annandale. The Baileys plan creates a vision to make Baileys a destination place where people can spend time, live, work. The Annandale Plan does not transform Annandale…it provides for additional square footage if certain features are provided. This is not Tysons that additional square feet is needed..It seems like a plan for developers rather than the community..The additional square feet for some properties will create traffic problems for those properties and other other nearby properties.. those who do not provide additional features will not get more square feet so all properties will not get the same treatment… The difference between the two road types was not very clear because the congestion for each at crossings was not clear..plan does not address unique needs of Annandale…
