Construction
on the “modular mini roundabout” on Ravensworth Road at the intersection of
Jayhawk Street and Fountainhead Drive in Annandale is expected to begin in
mid-May.
The
roundabout is a pilot project that is expected to improve traffic flow through
the intersection, deter speeding, and improve pedestrian safety. The project was
initially supposed to be implemented last summer. There was a community meeting
on it in June 2017.

The
project is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and will be maintained
by the Virginia Department of Transportation. The roundabout will be
constructed of recycled composite materials and could be removed if an
evaluation shows it isn’t effective.
Construction will take approximately three weeks,
with the work taking place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. During
that period, drivers can expect detours and delays.

VDOT must have found their thinking cap!
This one roundabout has been in the works for years, it seems. About time.
