County may need to use eminent domain for Annandale sidewalk project
The dotted lines show where the sidewalks will be constructed. The affected properties are outlined in blue. |
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on March 19 agreed to hold a public hearing April 9 on the acquisition of land rights necessary for the construction of a sidewalk along Little River Turnpike between Columbia Road and Mayhunt Court in Annandale.
The project consists of installing approximately 2,580 linear feet of sidewalk to fill in missing links, including crosswalks and curb ramps that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The affected properties are at 4600 Randolph Drive and 6601, 6669, 6675, and 6701 Little River Turnpike.
The construction of this project requires the acquisition of dedication, storm drainage and grading agreement, and temporary construction easements.
Land rights for two of the properties have already been acquired by the county’s Land Acquisition Division.
Negotiations are in progress with the remaining affected property owners. However, because resolution of these acquisitions is not imminent, it may be necessary for the BoS to use quick-take eminent domain powers to begin construction on schedule.
more sidewalks!! don't stop there, go all the way down Old Columbia Pike!!
YES! Old Columbia Pike needs a sidewalk
Sidewalks and biketrails that dont go anywhere, more Penny Gross revitiliation. UGGGG, can you at least connect something, just one thing, I'd be happy. This peicmeal nonsense is not helpful.
Backlick Road needs a sidewalk on the only spot between Little River Turnpike and Braddock Road that doesn't have one. It's between the Backlick Service Center and Cindy Lane, going South. You either have to slop through the mud and water where grass is supposed to be, or walk in the street which is always very busy. It's not very safe.
Yes I agree with you Peggy, there needs to be a sidewalk there it is very dangerous for pedestrians to walk that strip of property sometimes needing to walk in the road under weather conditions place a sidewalk there before someone gets seriously hurt or even worse.
