COVID testing event targets Hispanics in Annandale

A COVID testing even at Annandale High School in May drew a huge crowd.

The Fairfax County Health Department is hosting a free COVID-19 testing event targeted to the Hispanic community in Annandale on July 29, 2-8 p.m., at Annandale High School.

The Annandale zip code 22003 has one of the highest rates of COVID cases, and there is a much higher COVID infection rate among Hispanic communities, so the Health Department is holding a series of highly focused community testing events to identify positive cases.
If you are not part of that demographic group, search for other testing sites here.
People who wanted to participate in the Annandale High School testing event need to register in advance. To register, call 703-267-3511, or sign up here
To participate, you do not need a doctor referral, identification, or insurance. People must be at least 5 years old to get a test. Spanish speakers will be on site. COVID-19 testing does not affect a public charge determination.
This testing event is targeting working adults among the Annandale Hispanic community who live in the area roughly bordered by the beltway, Braddock Road, Ravensworth Road, and Annandale Road. That includes Fairmont Gardens, the apartments and condos along Americana Drive and Patriot Drive, and the Ravensworth Park, Ravensworth Grove, Cedar Crest, Annandale Terrace, and Accotink Heights neighborhoods.
When people register, they will need to give their name, birthdate, phone number, and address. That information is only required so people can get their test results.

    1. Actually, according to the blog post, Whites, Blacks, and Asians need not apply. It's pretty offensive to designate a testing event for a single ethnicity, esp. given the diversity of population within the 22003 area code. People should get tested based on potential exposure and/or presentation of symptoms. Race, ethnicity, etc. should not be a factor. Or, if target we must, do so according to Fairfax or 22003 residency status. I also hope educational outreach is paired with the testing event. When I drive through the LRT and Heritage Dr. area, I see a fair number of groups (mostly men) without masks and not social distancing.

    2. Please explain how dedicated testing within a specific community and demographic to better understand the spread in one of the regions biggest hoy zones is offensive.

    3. According to the book White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo any societal structure that results in a racial inequality is racist. The article says that if you are not part of the identified demographic group, go elsewhere. Ergo, FFx county is racist, at least according to modern thinking.

    4. @Anonymous – WHAT – pray tell – is your point? Do you need a COVID test and can't get it? There's a link in the post about where to look. Do you just not like people who don't look like you? Talk like you? Think like you? Your poor attempts at 'owning the libs' by feebly trying to turn anti-racist ideas against them make it clear that you are not concerned about actual discrimination or racism, so what is it? You just have no life and want to try out the pathetic MAGA talking points and xenophobic and/or racist scare-mongering tactics you learned on Fox News?

Here's an idea – unless you genuinely think there is some actual injustice in medical and scientific professionals targeting a specific demographic and area that suffer disproportionately from the ongoing pandemic, just don't post.

And, if you do think there is some injustice then JUST STATE IT instead of doing your weird OH I THOUGHT WE WEREN'T ALLOWED TO TALK ABOUT THAT nonsense.

    5. Buddy, sounds like he has a life and that is living in your head rent free. Why do you engage in this? Having said that, the article suggests that it is only for hispanics. That seems wrong, if true.

And the attempt to conflate the ideas from the book White Privilege to a noble county endeavor is inapposite. But, to say that the ideas in White Privilege are anti-racist is willfully ignorant or disingenuous.

  1. Targeting the testing toward a particular community does NOT mean that if you are not Hispanic you don't need to apply. It means that they are making testing available in an area that has a large Hispanic population, and supporting that testing by providing resources in Spanish. In addition, the testing hours will be such that it is useful for those with challenging schedules. What I find offensive is the endless attempts by always anonymous readers of this blog to vilify or tar human beings. If there is one area of the Annandale Blog that I would love to see improved, it would be to either eliminate comments entirely or to require verified names of commenters.

  2. have it your way….this my last post here….the moderator isn't interested in truth and defineatly has various agendas to protect which makes this blog quite lame….its been nice knowing you comment section people…but eye hold no hard feelings….PEACE
