Covid testing site opens in Fairfax

The Fairfax County Government Center.

The Virginia Department of Health is opening a community Covid testing center at the Fairfax County Government Center on Saturday, Jan. 15.

The PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests are free and are available by appointment only.

The testing center will be in a large tent in parking lot B at the southwest corner of the government center complex, at 12000 Government Center Parkway in Fairfax. People should dress warmly as they might have to wait in line outdoors.

The testing center will operate Saturdays through Wednesdays, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Test results will be automatically sent via text or email. PCR test results are usually available within a few days and are very effective in detecting an active Covid-19 infection, even if a person is asymptomatic.

Testing is recommended for individuals who have Covid symptoms or have been instructed to have a test following a Covid exposure.

A PCR test should not be done by those seeking to return to work or school after completing isolation for a Covid infection. PCR tests could remain positive even after an individual is no longer infectious.

Visit the Virginia Department of Health for more information on Covid tests.
