Craft artisans live and work in Annandale

Among the nearly 100 artisans at the 33rd Holiday Arts and Crafts Show at the Audrey Moore RECenter last weekend, were several who live and create here in Annandale.
Nancy Marshall (Fancy by Nancy) makes one-of-kind hair bows (left), fancy purses, and monogrammed aprons. She also creates  reversible placement with a fabric surface on one side and a chalkboard on the other side, so kids can draw pictures while waiting to be served.

Carol Breitner, named the best knitter at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, makes colorful sweaters, scarves, and hats, but her specialty is socks—tiny sock earrings (right), as well as regular socks for all size feet. The Carol’s Sockery website offers knitting kits that include patterns for making tiny socks, yarn, and tiny needles.

Nancy and Carol have been working on their crafts for many years, but Annandale residents Linda Schwartz (Lily’s Gems) and Alisa Joaquin (Temple Treasures) have only recently started making jewelry. The two shared a booth at the craft show displaying their beaded necklaces (left) and earrings. Alisa also makes tiny necklaces for Barbie dolls.
