Craig’s List robberies hit Annandale

Investigators from the Mason District  Police Station are looking into a series of armed robberies involving iPhones advertised on Craig’s List. Police estimate there may have been up to a dozen such robberies over the past three months in Fairfax County and other jurisdictions around the region.

In one recent case, the police report, a victim was robbed at gunpoint June 17 in the parking lot of a restaurant at Little River Turnpike and Oasis Drive in the Annandale area around 11 p.m. [Actually that area, between Beauregard and I-395, is more Lincolnia than Annandale.] The victim had arranged to purchase several iPhones through a Craig’s List ad  that read “Jailbroken iPhones for Sale.” The “seller” showed up for the meeting, produced a gun, robbed the victim of his cash, and fled.

The victim was able to identify a license plate, police investigated the report, and two men were subsequently arrested. Deshawn Derr, 25 of 2716 Arlington Drive, Alexandria, and David Ramsey, 39, with no fixed address, were charged with robbery and use of firearms in commission of a felony.

Police describe the vehicle that may have been used in the robberies as a navy blue, newer BMW model 7 series with North Carolina tags.

Based on a follow up investigation, police believe there may be similar incidents that have not been reported to police.

Potential victims should contact Detective John Vickery at 703/246-7800. Police advise sellers and buyers using online communications to use caution, meet up during daylight hours, and take a friend along.
