Crime report: assault by mob


The following recent crimes in the Annandale/Mason
District area were reported in the Fairfax County Police Department’s daily blotter:
Assault by mob: A 21-year-old man was walking home
on the 6000 block of Bellview Drive in the Culmore area at about 2:50 a.m. on
May 12 when he was assaulted by five males wearing black clothing with their
faces covered. The victim i
ncurred non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at
a local hospital. The incident was believed to be gang motivated.

Stolen vehicle recovery: On May 11
at about 1:36 a.m., an officer observed occupants of a vehicle parked in front
of a 7-Eleven at 3019 Annandale Road acting suspiciously and approached one of
the passengers to investigate. The officer determined the vehicle had been reported stolen. One of the suspects fled on foot and was later apprehended.
The other suspect was arrested at the scene.

Saul Ochoa, 19, of Falls Church, was
charged with possession of stolen property and carrying a concealed weapon.
Ulises Martinez Melendez, 19, of Falls Church, was charged with unauthorized
use of a vehicle.
Armed robbery: A man reported to police
that he was at the 3600 block of Barcroft View Terrace in Baileys Crossroads at about 9:42 a.m. on
May 9 when he was approached by three men armed with a gun who took property
and fled. 

Bryan Sanchez, 22, of Arlington, was caught and arrested and charged with
robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The other suspects got
away. They were described as Hispanic, in their 20s, and wearing dark clothing.
