Students from elementary and middle schools feeding into
Stuart High School were invited to Stuart Aug. 19 to pick up free school
supplies, meet educators and volunteers
from their school, get free vision and hearing tests, and get a haircut. Popcorn, snow cones, balloon animals, face painting, and a magician lent the event a fun, carnival atmosphere.

Parents had an opportunity to sign up for Fairfax County’s
online Student Information Services system, check if their children’s
vaccinations are up to date, and check out resources from dozens of Fairfax
County and state agencies, Fairfax County Public School departments, and nonprofit organizations. At least 4,700 people showed up.

Several organizations and business helped make the event a success, including the lead donor, the Rotary Club of Bailey’s Crossroads, which contributed $7,000.
The Stuart Pyramid Back to School Resource Fair was modeled
on a similar effort for the Annandale Pyramid held during the last two years.

What a great way to get kids excited about going back to school, and a way to help low income families be on a par with more affluent ones. Thanks and bravo to all who made this possible for Stuart and Annandale pyramids.
The school supplies should not go home with kids but be put into a box and sent to the child's school with their name on it. The supplies do not usually make it to the school.
