Culmore Cleanup celebrates its 10th anniversary

Hundreds of local volunteers will fan out across Bailey’s Crossroads April 28 to rid the area of litter and raise awareness about the value of keeping our communities and roadways trash-free.

Come join them in the 10th Annual Culmore Cleanup. The event takes place 9 a.m.-noon and covers an area along Route 7 from the Alexandria line to the Dar Al Hijrah Mosque, along Columbia Pike from the Arlington County line to Blair Road, from Route 7 at Nevius Street past Jeb Stuart High School to Beachway Drive, from Beachway to Blair Road and Columbia Pike, and along neighborhood streets within that perimeter.

The event starts at the Woodrow Wilson Library, 6101 Knollwood Drive, Falls Church. Trash bags, gloves, grabbers, water, and Culmore Cleanup t-shirts will be distributed to volunteers. Participants will be treated to coffee, juice, and doughnuts before the event and lunch will be provided by a local restaurant afterwards.

The local fire department, the Hidden Oaks Nature Center, and the Fairfax County Health Department will take part, along with other organizations that want to demonstrate their support for recycling, the environment, and a clean community.

Major sponsors of this community effort include City Diner, Coca Cola, Dar Al Hijrah Mosque, John Marshall Bank, Radley Acura, Jerusalem Restaurant, Moe’s Southwest Grill, Safeway, Bailey’s Crossroads Auto Body, Euro-Market Mobil, and the Rotary Club of Bailey’s Crossroads. Many other local businesses have lent their support, including Dunkin Donuts, REI, and Culmore Realty.

Additional support, in the form of monetary donatations for cleanup supplies, and water is still needed, as is volunteers (individuals or teams). If you can help, contact Priscilla Weck, 703/820-0579.
