CVS Health rolls out COVID vaccination program in Virginia

CVS is ready to vaccinate the public. [CVS]

CVS Health will begin offering COVID-19 vaccinations Feb. 11 at a limited number of pharmacies in 11 states, including Virginia, the company announced Feb. 2.

In Virginia, CVS is working with the Virginia Department of Health to provide 26,000 vaccine doses at 28 locations. None of them are in Northern Virginia, however.

The CVS stores offering vaccinations in Virginia are in Bedford, Blacksburg, Chesapeake, Fredericksburg, Lynchburg, Martinsville, Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke, Stafford, and Virginia Beach.

People who meet the VDH eligibility criteria will be able to start making appointments on Feb. 9.

Patients must register in advance at CVS.com or through the CVS Pharmacy app, and people without online access can contact CVS customer service at 800-746-7287. Walk-in vaccinations without an appointment will not be provided.

The initial CVS rollout in the 11 states includes about 250,000 total doses sourced directly from the federal government through the pharmacy partnership program. “As more supply becomes available the company will expand to additional states while increasing the number of stores offering vaccinations,” CVS says.

More than 90,000 CVS healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, licensed pharmacy technicians, and nurses, will participate in the vaccination effort, giving the company the capacity to administer 20 to 25 million shots per month.

Walgreens is also gearing up for a vaccination program in stores in select states, but Virginia is not on the list.

  1. This hogwash! So what are we suppose to do in NOVA? We are only the economic engine of the state and we cannot get CVS vaccinations. This entire role out that begun poorly with a Q quackery nut will have long lasting detrimental affects to the entire region. I say, NOVA hold back your taxes until we get our vaccines to our population. All the Q people get to the back of the line where you belong. Or better yet, move to Russia.

  2. Looking at the Virginia chart for vaccinations, almost all counties in the western part of Virginia have been vaccinating more people per 100,000 than Fairfax County. Fairfax County has more hospitals, drug stores, etc. than any area. Virginia withheld doses from Inova when Inova had 10,000 shots scheduled. Why? Obviously, Virginia is not doing well with this. Picture going to the DMV to get vaccinated. That is the efficiency we are seeing so far.

  3. What is going on?? This is total BS. zip code 22003 has one of the highest rates in the state. This is rubbish. Lower our taxes if you can provide us with an in-kind service. Bunch of jerks.

  4. What the hell, what are those idiot doing in Richmond and at Fairfax Government Center. Fairfax aught to be getting its FAIR number of vaccines for the County's density certainly contributes to higher transmissions. This entire this is a sham. I hope Biden can make up for the mistakes of the last administration and that our local representative do more to get us vaccinated.
