DC Steakholders now open, featuring original custard from old Frozen Dairy Bar
DC Steakholders, a restaurant with basic American food – featuring the original frozen custard from the old Frozen Dairy Bar – opened April 6 at 6641 Arlington Blvd. in Falls Church.
The owners, Usman Bhatti and his wife Lilly Kaur, have expanded on their DC Steakholders food truck with a brick-and-mortar restaurant that serves customizable burgers, hot dogs, cheese steak sandwiches, wings, salads, and fries (regular and sweet potato).
The 1950s Creamery inside the restaurant has frozen custard in cones or cups, sundaes, shakes, malts, and floats. There are plenty of toppings for a customized dessert.
Bhatti got the custard recipe from the great great grandson of Kevin Eakin who bought the Frozen Dairy Bar ice cream stand in the 1960s, about 10 years after it was founded by Guy and Walter Sponseller.
It was a landmark in the area for decades, providing treats to generations of families. Bhatti lived nearby when he was a child and says his dad used to take him there.
The ice cream stand briefly relocated when the shopping center was built in 1994 than moved into the center a few years later as part of Frozen Dairy Bar and Boardwalk Pizza. It was later rebranded as FDB Eatery and finally closed for good last fall.
DC Steakholders has outdoor, as well as indoor seating, and for those who miss the good old days, the soundtrack features tunes from the 50s.
It’s open daily at 11 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, at midnight Friday and Saturday, and 9 p.m. on Sunday.
First try and I will give 2 more. Teh wings need to be sauced separately and some celery and carrot sticks would be normal with a dip.
Afraid the prices for what you get from the restaurant side is quite high. for what you get.
It's a small business eatery. Trust they aren't concerned with balancing your wings with veggies – this ain't no Applebee's.
All things considered, pricing is absolutely reasonable.
