Denny’s is coming to Bailey’s Crossroads

The future site of a Denny’s restaurant.

A Denny’s restaurant will open at 5501 Leesburg
Pike, Bailey’s Crossroads, in the spot formerly occupied by Chili’s.

The new restaurant is scheduled to open in February 2019,
reports Denny’s spokesperson Jillian Hutwagner, but adds, “these dates do change
frequently.” It doesn’t look like any renovations have begun yet. Chili’s
closed in August 2017.

Denny’s, which bills itself as “America’s diner,” offers
hearty breakfasts all day, plus traditional American fare, such as burgers, sandwiches,
steaks, and the like. Denny’s restaurants are open 24/7.

The chain started with a donut shop in Lakewood, Calif., in
1953 and now has more than 1,700 locations. The closest ones are on Lee Highway
in Fairfax and Richmond Highway in Alexandria.

  1. A friend told me how the hash browns he ordered from Denny's came out frozen still. Never eaten at a Denny's after hearing that.

  2. another great local business addition. its almost like our supervisor thinks its 1980 and we need more strip malls and chain stores. maybe we can get an indoor shopping mall next.

    1. Correction, our supervisor is living in the 1970s. Skyline and its surrounding commercial/retail centers are an outdated model. With the lack of mass transit it will have the same slow demise as Landmark Mall. Just something to look foward to in Mason.

    2. Landmark would be a plus for the Mason District. It is insane how Penny doesn't seem to understand what businesses people want and add to the livability of a district. She wouldn't stop any box store from coming and spends ZERO time trying to attract new exciting places to eat and drink that all end up everywhere but MASON

    3. The demise of malls in the area is old news. There was a mall at Skyline, where the Target is, which met its demise some 15 years ago as did the nearby Seven Corners Mall some 25 years ago.

    1. I prefer a family owned restaurant and a Greek diner over a cookie cutter crappy restaurant that is probably adding to America's obesity problem. Although, I would agree, I wish City Diner would get off that lot for some new mixed use development.

  3. If City Diner were to move, which I hope that it doesn't, and more adjacent property would become available what do you think would take its place?. How about another apartment building to add to the thousands already in Mason District. That's whats happening at Baileys, the old Loehmann's Plaza and possibly Landmark Plaza, i.e. replacing commercial with more rental units.

So be careful what you wish for,

  4. Penny needs to go and she will soon I understand with her very heafty FFC retirement. It is time for FFC and Alexandria to do something about the Landmark Mall and make Mason District proud. Fed up with all the trash and the filth of this District. Very sad to have to pay the same taxes that the better places of FFC pays when we get far far less. Even the paving of the roads is half done. Take a look. Terrible job.
