Developer to help pay for bus pullout on Little River Turnpike in Lincolnia
This bus stop on Little River Turnpike in Lincolnia causes major backups. |
HHH LLC, the owner of the Plaza at Landmark Shopping Center, agreed to pay half the cost of a bus stop improvement on Little River Turnpike and Oasis Drive in Lincolnia. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors signed off on the funding agreement April 13.
HHH President Marshall Ruben is spending an initial $25,000 on the project and indicated he would contribute up to $250,000. The county would cover the rest of the cost, which is estimated at $500,000.
The existing bus stop on eastbound Little River Turnpike would be moved out of the travel lane and into its own bus bay. As a result, Metrobuses and Fairfax Connector buses would no longer block the travel lanes as passengers get on and off.
Landmark Plaza is poised for a major revitalization, which was facilitated by the approval of an amendment to the Lincolnia Comprehensive Plan in 2019. The shopping center is directly across the road from the bus stop slated for improvement.

According to the document reviewed by the supervisors, HHH “recognized the critical importance of making near-term strategic spot improvements to relieve congestion and improve vehicle circulation in the area for shopping center patrons, residents, and the traveling public.”
It says the new bus pullout at Oasis Drive “would create immediate circulation benefits, especially for southbound cars on Beauregard Street turning left onto Little River Turnpike.”
In addition to the roadway modifications, the project includes a new bus shelter and new curbs and gutters, replacement of part of a sidewalk, and upgraded curb ramps to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
Great news! Thank you!
The Beauregard/Oasis/Little River Turnpike intersections have so many problems, this one improvement will do little to relieve it. Trying to make a left onto LRT from Beauregard is the worst movement, as oftentimes cars are backed up because the left turn from Little River Turnpike onto Oasis has the green light. This ill-conceived entrance into the plaza should never have been built, nor should have the pedestrian crossing at that same location. Want to improve the safety and traffic flow? Eliminate that intersection and make Oasis a right out only. Cars that need to get to the plaza use a longer left hand turn lane and make the left at Beauregard. Pedestrians needing to cross LRT go to Beauregard where an improved pedestrian crossing should be installed. The current spacing between these intersections is not adequate to accommodate all the movements occurring, and the current mix of people trying to cross, cars accelerating to get onto 395 while at the same time trying to weave from the left lane into the right lane is deadly.
Thank you Marshall !
I really don't like these when riding the bus. It takes forever for the bus to actually get back on the road after entering these pullout stations.
The entire intersection is as an unplanned disaster. Blow it up and start all over again is my recommendation.
