Drive carefully – Let’s have a safe Halloween

Drivers are warned to slow down and be extra alert on Halloween, as kids will be out trick or treating tonight. There will only a thin sliver of moon, which means it will be very dark.
And because Halloween isn’t just a kids’ holiday, Fairfax County Police will be stepping up efforts to combat drunk driving. DWI saturation patrols will be in effect at various locations throughout the county Oct. 31-Nov. 3.
Instead of driving home from the party, call SoberRide, 800-200-TAXI, for a free cab ride (up to $30) from 10 p.m. Oct. 31 to 4 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1.
Parents are urged to make sure that children:
- Cross the street with an adult.
- Walk on sidewalks or paths.
- Cross the street at corners, obey traffic signals and crosswalk signs, and watch for cars that may be turning or backing up.
- Wear reflective costumes or carry lights that can be seen by motorists.
