Eight arrested for burglary at Safari
Eight people were charged with burglary Dec. 31 at the Safari restaurant and hookah lounge, at 5831 Columbia Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, an officer was conducting a check of the business, which has been closed since Dec. 18, when an individual was observed at the rear of the building. The subject ran inside the restaurant and additional officers responded.
These individuals were arrested for burglary inside the restaurant: Kelvin G. Henry, 50, no fixed address; Andrew R. Kamanzi, 29, of Falls Church; Mohamed J. Abdi, 32, of Falls Church; Donovan N. Barrett, 25, no fixed address; Izel B. Richardson, 21, of Falls Church; Alan Fernandez, 40, of Fairfax; Angelos K. Seney, 49, of Fairfax; and Jessie L. Darden, 52, no fixed address.
On Dec. 13, there was a homicide outside the Safari. The police department has not information on that.
The Safari is located on a site proposed for redevelopment. The Fairfax County Planning Commission in November endorsed a comprehensive plan amendment calling for mixed-use development, including apartments, public school, and interim park, along Columbia Pike between Moncure Avenue and Radley Acura. The Board of Supervisors has scheduled a public hearing on the proposal Jan. 13 at 3 p.m.

Safari needs to go as well as do the people that were arrested. All need to be returned to sender with no return address……thank you Fairfax County Police.

I am sure the surrounding neighborhoods will object tearing down this fine establishment just like everything else.
Its a historic landmark to just how bad Mason District has become. Why would anyone want to tear down such a treasure. I think Mason should turn it into a real safari and add some elephants, giraffes, and oh yea and monkeys, we have plenty of those living in Mason.

Or maybe a car title loan shop.
Nah – slap some glass and aluminum on it and voila!! Donuts cost $5/ea.
Or maybe a place where they can sell dogs to the Koreans for dinner. Seems like this is the place to do it.
