El Habanero to offer traditional Mexican cuisine

You would never know this used to be Title Max.

El Habanero Taqueria Bar & Grill, a restaurant focusing on traditional Mexican cuisine, under construction at 7321 Little River Turnpike in Annandale, could open as early as mid-May.

The restaurant will have two kitchens: one for a full-service dining room with a small bar and the other with an express line for carryout, says owner Milton Ortega, who also owns El Tikal Travieso Restaurant Y Night Club at 4230 Annandale Road and is serving as the general contractor for El Habanero.

The menu will be 100 percent Mexican, with such items as tacos, enchiladas, burritos, tilapia, pozole, flautas, and birria, Ortega says.

Unlike Tikal, which is open until 2 a.m., El Habanero will be family-oriented and will close at 10 p.m.

El Habanero will be in the building, that used to house TitleMax and, before that, Jerry’s Subs and Pizza.

    1. I found out last weekend that the potato wedges at NY style pizza, or whatever it's called, are fantastic. It's where the sunset was. And I don't think they are called wedges, but special fries or something like that? Don't have a menu in from of me to tell you exactly what they call them, but I'm recommending their potato wedges in a long winded kind of way!

    1. Yes, I just hope the food is decent and that the ambiance is set for dining. These local restaurant love their fluorescent bright lights. The only thing diners want to do is hurry up and eat and get out of the glare. Here is a message for the ethnic restaurant owners: most of us have to endure fluorescent lighting at work, we like to relax when we dine and not under harsh lighting. Think about it, it may improve your customer volume.
