Fairfax County needs election officers to work at the polls during the June 11 primaries and the general election Nov. 5. There is a particular need for election officers who speak Korean or Vietnamese.

Election officers are entitled to a $175 stipend for a full day of work or can volunteer their time. Training starts in April.

To apply, submit an online form. For more information, visit the Office of Elections website, watch a YouTube video, or call 703-324-4735.

Election officers must arrive at their assigned polling place at 5 a.m. and remain until all work has been completed after the polls close at 7 p.m.

An election officer’s main priority is to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the election process.
Election officers set up and take down the voting equipment, hang up signs, prepare the polling room for voting, process voters throughout the day, and help voters use the voting equipment.

To be selected as an election officer, you must:

  • be fluent in English
  • be a registered voter in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • be able to fulfill the federal I-9 employment eligibility requirements
  • attend a three-hour training class,
  • have basic computer skills.
