Everyone in Stuart pyramid invited to Back-to-School Resource Fair
Stuart High School |
All students attending Stuart High School and all the elementary and middle schools feeding into Stuart – and their parents – are invited to the first-ever Stuart Pyramid Back-to-School Resource Fair, Aug. 19, 207 p.m. at Stuart.
The Resource Fair will help families in need by providing backpacks full of school supplies, health and wellness resources, free haircuts, hearing and vision screening, child IDs and fingerprinting, face painting, balloon animals, popcorn, and more.
The event is based on the successful Back-to-School Resource Fairs for the Annandale pyramid in 2013 and 2014.
Schools in the Stuart Pyramid include Bailey’s, Beech Tree, Belvedere, Glen Forest, Parklawn, and Sleepy Hollow elementary schools; Glasgow Middle School; and Stuart High School.
Those schools serve more than 8,300 students, and more than 66 percent of them qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. The Resource Fair seeks to leverage community resources to ensure all students in the Stuart Pyramid have the school supplies they need to start school ready to learn.
Educators from schools in the pyramid will be on hand to answer questions and encourage children to be excited about the new school year. Representatives from more than 50 community organizations will offer information about their services.
The Stuart Resource Fair sponsored by the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club, JEB Stuart High School, JEB Stuart PTSA, the Fairfax County Department Neighborhood and Community Services, Our Daily Bread, ICNA Relief USA, and the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center.
Volunteers are needed to help make the event a success. Sign up online. You can also submit a donation online through the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club Foundation to help provide school supplies to disadvantaged students.
I think this is a wonderful idea but most of the school supplies do not always make it to the school. I think the supplies should be boxed up or bagged up and sent to the student's school in that students name. There is no use of giving all the school supplies away for the purpose of it staying in their home.
