Fairfax County Schools expands grab-and-go meal service

Fairfax County Public Schools is expanding the free meal service it’s been providing to students since schools were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program is aimed at ensuring every student has access to a healthy breakfast and lunch.
The meals are available for pick-up at certain schools, other locations, and along bus routes.
Grab-and-go service hours have been extended to 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Families can pick up breakfast and lunch at the same time.
New this fall: On Fridays, families can pick up extra breakfasts and lunches for Saturdays.
The meals – prepared daily by FCPS foodservice professionals – contain protein, whole grains, fruits and/or vegetables, and low-fat or fat-free milk.
All FCPS students are eligible for free grab-and-go breakfast and lunch, as well as other county children under the age of 18. Adults picking up meals for children should let staff know how many children’s meals they need. Adults can purchase a meal for $2.
The curbside meal pick-up stations are available at 33 schools throughout the county, including these sites in the Annandale/Mason District area:
- Annandale Terrace Elementary School
- Bailey’s Primary ES
- Braddock ES
- Bren Mar Park ES
- Falls Church High School
- Glen Forest ES
- Luther Jackson Middle School
- Mason Crest ES
- Parklawn ES
- Weyanoke ES
Curbside meal pick-up stations, in a canopy tent, are generally located in the bus lanes at the schools or in the kiss-and-ride area. Food and Nutrition Services staff will deliver meals directly to vehicles. Walk-ups are welcome, as well.
School meals are also available at nine “pop-up” sites, including these locations in the Annandale/Mason District area:
- James Lee Community Center, 12-12:30 p.m.
- Oakview Garden Apartments, by the basketball courts, 10-10:30 a.m.
- Willston Multicultural Center, 11-11:30 a.m.
FCPS school buses are delivering grab-and-go meals along dozens of bus routes, including routes that serve Annandale HS, Falls Church HS, Jackson MS, Poe MS, Mason Crest ES, Woodburn ES, Justice HS, Glasgow MS, Holmes MS, Belvedere ES, Columbia ES, Weyanoke ES, Bren Mar Park ES, Braddock ES, Westlawn ES, Camelot ES, Ravensworth ES, Bailey’s ES, Glen Forest ES, Parklawn ES, Sleepy Hollow ES, Woodson HS, Frost MS, and Wakefield Forest ES.
