Fairfax County Schools expands meal distribution program

Grab-and-go lunches ready for pickup at Bailey’s Elementary School.

Fairfax County
Public Schools on March 24 expanded its grab-and-go free meal service to 34
schools, 12 pop-up sites, and at intersections along many school bus routes.
FCPS has also
changed the hours at school sites to 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday-Friday. Breakfast and
lunch will be available at the same time.

The free meals are
provided to all county children under age 18, with the goal of ensuring students do not go hungry when schools are closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Adults may purchase a meal for
$2.

Among the schools providing this service 9 a.m.-1 p.m. are
these schools in the Annandale/Mason District area: Annandale Terrace Elementary
School, Bailey’s Primary ES, Braddock ES, Bren Mar Park ES, Falls Church High
School, Glen Forest ES, and Parklawn ES.
The pop-up locations in the Annandale/Mason area offering
grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches at more restricted times include Bailey’s
Community Center (10-10:30 a.m.), James Lee Community Center (12-12:30 p.m.), Luther
Jackson Middle School (11-11:30 a.m.), Mason Crest ES (10-10:30 a.m.), and the Willston
Multicultural Center (11-11:30 a.m.).
In addition, FCPS is delivering grab-and-go meals along 12 bus
routes. Route #11 serves the Glen Forest ES, Parklawn ES, Holmes Middle School,
Glasgow MS, Annandale High School, and Justice High School areas. See the
schedule for this route here
