The Falls Church High School student, Jacson Pineda Chicas, killed by gang members, was trying to leave the gang, his mother told a reporter with NBC Washington.
The following is from a report on NBC4:
Pineda Chicas’ body was found in a wooded area in Fredericksburg, Va., by a passing sheriff’s deputy last weekend. He had been stabbed 100 times and his body had been set on fire.
Police believe he was murdered at a house on Varnum Street in Prince George’s County, Md., after he showed up for a gang meeting.
According to police, the five suspects who have been arrested and charged with Pineda Chicas’ murder are part of an MS-13 “clique” that operates in Fairfax County.
The suspects, identified by Prince George’s County police, are: Jose Ordonez-Zometa, age 29; Jose Hernandez-Garcia, 25; Jonathan Castillo-Rivera, 20; Kevin Rodriguez-Flores, 18; and Christian Martinez-Ramirez, 16.
One suspect is in jail in Prince George’s County. The other four are in Virginia awaiting extradition to Maryland.
Pineda Chicas’ mother, who was not identified to protect her safety, told News4 that her son was forced to join the gang in El Salvador and that’s why their family fled the country. But he was forced back into it when he fell into the clutches of neighborhood boys.

“They threatened him and they would follow him to work. He worked at IHOP,” she said. “Every day he would leave [the house] with fear.”
He suspected he was about to be murdered, his mother said. “He had to take knives to defend himself, and screwdrivers. He had razors and he told me, ‘Mom, I’m going to defend myself with them, but it’s not going to be enough.”
In a March 14 email to Falls Church High School parents, Principal Ben Nowak wrote: “Jacson was an engaging young man, well-liked by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by the Jaguar school community.”
“I have been in contact with Jacson’s family to offer them our condolences and support,” Nowak wrote. “They have allowed me to share the news of his death with you so that you may be prepared to support your child. We will take every step we can to be responsive to the needs of our students and their families. Our counselors along with an FCPS crisis team are available to meet with any students or staff who need support in processing this news.”
Update, 3/18/19: Nowak advised the community March 17 that one of the students arrested for the murder of Jacson Pineda was also a student at Falls Church High School. [That would be Christian Martinez-Ramirez.]
“Current reports from law enforcement indicate that though these boys attended the same school, the nexus of violence was not within FCHS,” Nowak states. “We are closely monitoring this situation with the support and assistance of law enforcement and the FCPS Office of Safety and Security as we recognize that safety in the school is closely tied to safety in the community.”
Nowak reassures the school community that “the entire staff at FCHS remains committed to providing a caring, inclusive, and safe learning environment that meets the needs of all of our students. This unfortunate and tragic incident in no way reflects day to day life at our school. We are now and will remain a community of hard-working, talented, caring students and teachers and supportive families who work together to create the best opportunities for our children to help them reach their full potential.”
Update, 3/19/19: A March 19 report in the Washington Post says Jose Ordonez-Zometa, the leader of the gang, lived in the Landover, Md., home where Chicas was taken.
During a meeting of the gang, Ordonez-Zometa questioned Chicas’ loyalty and ordered the other gang members to stab him, clean up the crime scene, and dispose of the body.
According to the article Otdonez-Zometa is a citizen of the El Salvador who illegally re-entered the United States after being deported in October 2017.
During Ordonez-Zometa’s bail review hearing, the Washington Post reports, “his public defender argued for him to be released on a $25,000 bond, saying he was the father of two children, including a 4-month-old girl.”
“Prince George’s County Assistant State’s Attorney Sherrie Waldrup requested that Ordonez-Zometa remain held without bond,” the article states, “citing the ‘egregious’ and ‘gruesome’ allegations against him.”
The FCPD IS WRONG to classify MS-13 as a "clique"
DEFINED as a small group of people, with shared interests or other features in common, who spend time together and do not readily allow others to join them.
SYNONYMS: coterie, circle, inner circle, crowd, in-crowd, set, group.

MS-13, Mara Salvatrucha, is an international CRIMINAL GANG that originated in Los Angeles, California, in the 1970s and 1980s. The gang later spread to many parts of the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central America, and is active in urban, suburban, and rural areas.

You are also wrong. The MS GANG does operate in CLIQUES, meaning they have separate groups in different areas. Do your research. MS has many many cliques and each clique has its own leader. The article is not saying that the entire gang is a clique. They are saying that this particular MS Clique is one that is operated in Fairfax County.

I contacted Fairfax County about the gangs at Luther Jackson Middle School and Falls Church High School. Hispanic students cornering white kids in the bathrooms and taking their money. Fairfax County didn't care. I guess the County doesn't want to be called racist. Kids shouldn't be afaired to go to school in the name of political correctness.
As the mother of FCHS students and former LJMS students, I have never heard these stories. I also live walking distance to FCHS & all and all it's a calm school. If these events are happening, the victims (regardless of color) should report it to the resource officer. I am sure it would be handled.
Who the heck are the police kidding.. a clique?? That's a sad description of a violent gang. Let's not downplay this tragedy.
MS 13 operates in separate “Cliques”. The whole gang isn’t a clique…. lol the article is stating that this particular Clique is operated in Fairfax County. MS13 is a huge international gang so it has many many cliques, each with its own leader. It’s like a subdivision of the whole gang.

And that includes criminals.FCPD ~ Keystone cops invent new workds to downplay their inabity and igrnorance in how to deal with growing urban violent gang crime. We should vote and spend a fortune on change Mason District to Stupidville.
Guys, just FYI, "clique" is an actual gang word. It means a gang's regional subgroup. Most people aren't familiar with the term, but police detectives and gang members are. Now you know.

What is frustrating to me is that these gangs seem to operate in public, with no repercussions. They are a criminal enterprise, intimidation like this should be actionable, and all this skipping around between VA and MD brings them directly under the RICO statute. Yet it seems that they are still allowed to operate their little enterprise until someone gets hurt. There has to be a better way than just to react. I don't have all the answers, but it is frustrating to just know that there is gang activity in certain neighborhoods and schools and yet it would seem nothing is being done about it on a daily basis. Only way to stop this is to stay on top of the problem day in and day out.
I was in a McDonalds in Lincolnia a few weeks ago and saw a dozen teenage MS13 members assemble to discuss something. Proudly wearing LA Dodgers caps and wearing lots of blue and white. (Go ahead, tell me I'm stereotyping; we're a long way from LA, and they know exactly what it means to wear those items, even if you don't). Well, they can dress and behave as they want, but I think I should have an enhanced right of self defense if a group like that gets carried away and decides to pick on anyone in the restaurant, showing off for one another. You want to live that lifestyle, no problem. But the rest of us should be granted enhanced legal rights to defend ourselves all out the second you get aggressive. Let them understand that those are the rules and they can consider how they want to behave toward innocent civilians.
Please go on. I want to hear more about your "enhanced self defense rights."

Adam, as the person below wrote, all it takes is for them to perceive that they have been slighted. That is the MS13 way. "Never that" is what they say to their fellow members in those situations, and then they attack. Also, I'm not sure if you are aware, but there is a strictly enforced code within MS13 that if one of them starts a fight, they must all jump in, no excuses, or face severe punishment from gang leadership. Therefore, it is reasonable to fear for one's life if an MS13 gang member starts a physical confrontation in the presence of his peers. Therefore, full self defense should be more legally defensible when the attackers are proudly presenting to the public that they are gang members.
I am glad Virginia is an open carry state. That's what I consider full self-defense
So let me get this straight. When what you perceive to be MS13 members are present (based on interest in LA sports teams), it needs to be written…in a LAW somewhere…that it's legally ok for you to literally defend yourself to the maximum extent based on what MIGHT happen to you if they MIGHT get angry with you? all based on their appearance?
Sort of, but not quite. Put the burden of proof on the self-defense shooter to prove that there were sufficient indicators that it was a gang member starting the confrontation. If he cannot prove that in court, he loses those elevated self-defense protections. Possible indicators could be a combination of things, like the gang colors, certain tattoos, the number of them confronting him, actual boasting of gang affiliation or flashing gang symbols, asking the self-defense shooter if he's with a gang, previous incidents the shooter witnessed that confirmed they are in a gang, neighborhood awareness that they are in a gang (which would be the most common way). The ultimate, of course, would be law enforcement confirmation that the individuals were known gang members. Mind you, this is just me thinking for 5 minutes. I’m sure it could be improved. But I’m not OK with how they get to lord about with impunity these days. Time for a little pushback. A law like this might make them slightly less likely to bully people in public.

The original post said "gets aggressive." I had no idea what that meant, I was running with that. Is it one of these dudes getting up in your face? probably not wise to start blasting away with your 9.
Most kids who wear LA sports caps do it as a gang related thing. It's blue color stands for gang colors such as for Crips, Sur 13, and MS 13. I used to live in North Carolina in a neighborhood with heavy crip presence, and now where I live in Falls Church, most of the people I see wearing dodgers caps look like MS 13 gang members who are 16, and when I went to visit family in Sonsonate El Salvador, LA sports caps were everywhere, but the only people who wore them were MS 13 members, and I could tell they were Maras because they also had ski masks on, so my point is that it was MS 13 related, not sports related at all.
MS-13 is present and very active in the area. They are not only at FCHS but Justice as well. They wear gang colors and are rarely dangerous to those outside of the gang world UNLESS they think that they have been slighted/wronged. The sticking point is that most of these kids are not legal to be in the country nor are their families. Due to criminal backgrounds they would never be welcomed into this country (we do not want gang members and felons). The school systems act as sanctuaries.
I went to FCHS and it was always known as the school with a gang problem. It has only gotten worse. I had classmates bringing guns and knives in, and had more than one friend murdered. It is a sad fact.
I agree this is a fact of life here, unfortunately. I makes me so sad to see this scourge in our schools. And unfortunately, this is the reason I am opting for private schools for my kids.
Its a shame you have to pay taxes and tuitions to get your kids a good education. This is because FFX county leadership has failed. I suggest you take your concerns to the ballot box and get rid of the leaders that have you paying what results in a double tax.
We opted for private schools as well. Our friend teaches at Glasgow and explained that it can be a rough school mostly due to the MS-13 gang members in attendance. It kills me that we pays taxes and tuition because we want our kids to be safe. And although not politically correct, if immigration were enforced we could remove these gangs and improve the school system. Instead, we financially strap ourselves to keep our kids safe.
The school system is the KEYSTONE to our community, and so begins the bifurcation of our area….. I don't blame you for sending your kids to private school, because your intention was to send them to public school in the first place. The public schools are "ghetto" as I have heard high school students call them, and the private schools…. well…. that is where the rich kids go. The children (with the means and without) will learn that there are two systems instead of what FCPS used to be really good at – blending in everyone and producing a 90% plus graduation rate.
Just saying that this situation could have been prevented if we didn't take in sooo many illegal alien children so fast. Many elementary schools in our area have 10-12 kindergarten classes (20 + kids per class) – YES that is a lot of youngsters. Now they are here and are not going anywhere – and as hard as our teachers try to teach children of parents with a grade school education how to be responsible law abiding adults for the betterment of our country and county there is no way they can be both a teacher and a parent to these kids – hello the MS-13 alternative (shrug). Our county can't afford it…… but heck I got my personal property tax bill in the mail, I wonder where the money will go?
