Farmers markets open next week

Ready to shop outdoors for fresh produce from local farms? Fairfax County’s 11 farmers markets open next week.

The market at Wakefield Park, 8100 Braddock Road, Annandale, opens for the season May 3. It will operate 2-6 p.m. every Wednesday through October.

The first day for the Annandale Farmers Market, at 6621 Columbia Pike in Mason District Park, is May 4. It’s open on Thursdays, 8 a.m.-noon, through Nov. 15.

These are the vendors scheduled for the Wakefield Farmers Market:

Bread & Water, Alexandria, Va., – artisan, organic breads and pastries.

Countless Blessings, Culpeper, Va. – pork poultry, rabbit, eggs, soap.

F.J. Medina & Son Farm, Montross, Va. – seasonal produce, including strawberries, corn, melons, tomatoes, squash, peppers, and more.

Fresh Crunch, Falls Church, Va. – pickled vegetables.

The Jammerie, Alexandria, Va. – jams, jellies, chutneys, conserves, confits, and syrups.

Kiwi Kuisine, Alexandria, Va. – New Zealand-style savory pies and fresh juice blends.

Kuhn Orchards, Cashtown, Pa. – apples, pears, peaches, apricots, plums, raspberries, blueberries, cherries, rhubarb, asparagus, tomatoes, onions, garlic, pumpkins, squash, sweet potatoes, herbs, flowers.

Level Green Farm/Sissons Produce, Montross, Va. – various types of vegetables and fruits.

Lois’s Produce, Montross, Va. – asparagus, onions, radishes, strawberries, sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, peas, cucumbers, squash, tomatoes, corn, peppers, eggplant, elephant garlic, etc.

Nitro’s Creamery, Springfield, Va. – handcrafted and made-to-order ice cream using liquid nitrogen as a freezing agent.

PKs Kitchen, Annandale, Va. – soup, hummus, sandwich meats and spreads.

Plietez Produce Farm, Montross, Va. – various types of vegetables and fruits.

Salsa Las Glorias, The Plains, Va. – homemade salsa with locally grown vegetables and without preservatives, food coloring, or added water.

Stallard Road Farm & Botanicals, Rixeyville, Va. – eggs, honey, mushrooms, herb plants, dried and fresh herbs, herbal products, and grass-fed beef.

Sue’s Pies and More, Warrenton, Va. – homemade pies and other baked goods.

Walnut Hill Farm at Elm Springs, Falmouth, Va. – grass-fed Devon beef, Tamworth Heritage pork, slow-growth poultry, and pasture-raised lamb.

Bonaparte Breads, Savage Md. – French breads and pastries.

F.J. Medina & Son Farm, Montross, Va. – seasonal produce, including strawberries, corn, melons, tomatoes, squash, and peppers.

Honeycomb Heroes, Garrisonville, Va. – three varieties of raw honey, beeswax candles and other products.

J & W Valley View Farm, Montross, Va. – fruits and vegetables.

Layla’s Lebanese Restaurant, Woodbridge, Va. – Lebanese cuisine made daily from fresh ingredients.

Sharkawi Farm, Broad Run, Va. – potted herbs, flowering and edible potted plants, mixed salad greens, greenhouse cucumber, fresh figs, pansies, dried lavender, teas, spices, and spice mixes.

Twin Springs Fruit Farm, Orrtanna, Pa. – tree fruits, berries, and vegetables, including strawberries, tomatoes, peaches, and carrots.

Valentine’s Bakery & Meats, Orange, Va. –fruit pies, cookies, sweet breads, granola, whoopie pies, and gluten-free baked goods; fresh fruit jams; eggs; and free-range, grass-fed, and antibiotic and hormone-free beef, pork, lamb, and chicken.

Westmoreland Produce, Montross , Va. – fruits, vegetables, and plants (herbs and flowers).

Both the Annandale and Wakefield market will also have a plant clinic staffed by Master Gardeners to answer questions about plants, pest control, and gardening.
