Farmers markets will stay open throughout the fall
The Annandale Farmers Market |
Summer is winding down, but most of the local farmers markets will be going strong for another couple of months or so – or even longer.
The Annandale Farmers Market, at Mason District Park, will operate through Nov. 7. It’s open Thursday mornings, 8-noon.
The Wakefield Farmers Market will be at the Audrey Moore RECenter Wednesday afternoons, 2-6, through Oct. 30.
You’ll find plenty of produce – tomatoes, squash, berries, melons, and much more – plus herbs, honey, packaged foods, and baked goods at those markets, which are operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority.
There’s also a Master Gardener on site to answer questions about everything from soils to pest control.
Several local apartment complexes have their own farmers markets.
The Vistas of Annandale’s market, in front of the leasing office at 7931 Patriot Drive, Annandale, is open every Monday, 1-7 p.m. It will continue to operate this fall, with no end date planned. (The Vistas is a Title Sponsor of the Taste of Annandale, along with Lambros Goldsmith.)
Orchard Country Produce, based in Gardners, Pa., operates a farm market at the Woodlake Condominium, 3100 S. Manchester St., in the Seven Corners area 4-7 p.m. on Tuesdays. It will be open on Sept. 3 and 10, then will close for the season.
There’s also a farmers market at the Southern Towers condos at 5021 Seminary Road, Alexandria, specializing in produce from Amish country. It’s open Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m., all year long.
The FreshFarm market at the Mosaic District in Merrifield, 2910 District Avenue, will be open Sundays, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. through December (and 10:30-2:30 December to March). They’ve got things like pickles, ice cream, wild salmon, goat cheese, wood-fired bagels, and handmade dog treats, as well as produce.
Master Gardeners will be at the Farmer's Markets only through the end of September
