Fatal pedestrian accident on Route 50

A 36-year-old woman was struck and killed while attempting to walk across Arlington Boulevard near Graham Road shortly after 2 a.m. on Sept. 3, the Fairfax County Police Department reports. The pedestrian was outside of a marked crosswalk.

The driver was traveling westbound on Arlington Boulevard. He stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors for the driver. At this point, no charges are expected. It is yet to be determined if alcohol was a factor for the pedestrian.

Update: The FCPD reported Sept. 6 that the victim has been identified as Dayssy Avalo, 36, of Falls Church.

  1. My heart goes out to the pedestrian's family, but also to the driver. I can't imagine what he must be going through.

    Please, everyone, be careful; some mistakes can never be undone.
