FCPS closes schools until further notice, expands meal distribution to 18 locations

In order to curb the spread of coronavirus, all Fairfax County Public Schools are closed until further notice, FCPS announced March 15. That includes all administrative offices, as well as all school buildings.
The laptop distribution that had been scheduled for March 16 has been cancelled, states a notice from Superintendent Scott Brabrand.
Only essential personnel, as defined by FCPS program managers and supervisors, will be asked to report to work until further notice, Brabrand says. All other employees will work remotely. Personnel who do have to report to work are expected to practice social distancing.
The FCPS food distribution program has been expanded to a total of 18 locations, beginning March 16, including these schools in the Annandale/Mason District area: Annandale Terrace Elementary School, Bailey’s Primary ES, Braddock ES, and Weyanoke ES.
The grab-and-go meals are set up outside the schools. Breakfast is available 8-10:30 a.m., and lunch can be picked up 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. All FCPS students and other Fairfax County children 18 years of age and under can get a free meal at any of the 18 sites and an additional free meal upon request. Adults may purchase a meal for $2.
The first two weeks of school closure (March 16-27) will not include any teacher-directed instruction, Brabrand says. Students can participate in optional, self-directed learning activities that have been posted on FCPS 24-7 Learning (Blackboard). Those activities will not be graded.
