  1. Dear Article Author:
Using the language of liberals, sex is not the same as gender. Liberals define Sex as your chromosomal makeup. Gender is something entirely different. Considering the liberal bent of your blog, don’t mix the words sex and gender. Thus, sex does not include gender identity and orientation.

    1. I agree that this blog is bent on the left but she just copied this from the FCPS website. They are the ones that worded it that way. Remember those are the schools our children are attending. Here is the link.Summer Meal Service Program | Fairfax County Public Schools

That said I do enjoy this blog and keeping up with things going on in our area and I think Ellie does a great job. If we all know it’s bent liberal then we can take those things that feel political with a grain of salt here.

    2. The second sentence should have simply stopped at ‘The meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis…’ The first sentence says ‘All children under the age of 18…’. Aren’t all…all? Don’t understand the need to add all the qualifiers.

      1. I work for the school system and that’s just the way they are. Because of lawsuits they have to be so very specific. Trust me I’m not defending them and I don’t necessarily agree but it’s all because they’ve been sued multiple times.

      2. I think we have to add the qualifiers because here in America we have a history of saying all but meaning something different.

Our founding documents held that “all men are created equal, with certain inalienable rights,” and yet it was another hundred and fifty or so years before we ended slavery, and a similar timeframe for women’s suffrage.

We have to add the qualifiers for people who think All means them and People like them, not actually everyone. People like person who started this comment thread, apparently upset that there are people who don’t fit into the mold of what he or she thinks people should be.

Want to be rid of the qualifiers? Get rid of the people who would use the lack of them to discriminate, divide, and otherwise spread hatred.

        1. Yes, get rid of those people! I hope that you, Joe M., are the arbiter of who to get rid of. We can then have a society of full of the smartest, fairest people ever.

          1. I have multiple responses.

            1) or we could just keep the qualifiers

            2) you’re right I should have said,”Want to get rid of the qualifiers? Stop discriminating against others.

            2) Better me than you Xenophobes and racists.

            4) Yeah you, hit the bricks. You know who you are. You claim to Love America the most, yet your actions seem to imply you hate everyone and everything here. So get the eff on. Move someplace that doesn’t want to respect people regardless of their sex, gender, age, religion, skin color, ancestry.

            1. Your ability to discern others’ motivations, attitudes and innermost thoughts based on a couple sentences and then hurling horrible invectives and judgements their way is unparalleled in the pages of this news blog. Get angry much?

              1. Thank you for the compliments on my cognitive abilities. Am I angry that people are willfully ignorant and purposefully hateful? Absolutely. Aren’t you?

                1. No Joe. My cognitive ability you’re one of the hypocritical tools who post signs saying “Hate not welcome here” while looking out your home’s windows for anyone who “looks suspicious.”

    1. Maybe because some children would go hungry if they didn’t…. Have you ever been hungry for DAYS with no food in sight?

      1. Anyone in America can eat out of a garbage can and have better, more healthy food than 90% of the world.

        1. I can’t imagine this was posted sincerely, but on the off chance that you meant it:

The decision function should not be “should a community take an action to help children if there is a theoretical option for slightly better subsistence than global poverty” but rather”should a community take an action to help children if it allows them to maintain their physical health and mental health so that they return to school in the fall better prepared to learn?” Feeding children is in the school district and the community’s best interest.
