Feds bust escort service using illegal Korean immigrants

Taesan Won, 37, a Korean citizen who lives in Fairfax was arrested by federal officials for running an escort service with illegal Korean immigrants, WUSA reported June 7. Won is scheduled for sentencing Sept. 2 and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.

The so-called “doumi girl” operation, supplied the escorts as paid companions in nightclubs and karaoke bars.

Won recuited girls for his company, called “Honey,” by posting Korean-language advertisements online.  Some of the women lived at his home in Fairfax, where they each paid him $300 per month in rent.

Another co-conspirator also established a ‘sook-so,’ or housing dormitory, in the Lafayette Forest condos in Annandale to house doumi women who worked for him, WUSA reported. Those women paid the co-conspirator approximately $100 per week in rent.

According to the Fairfax Daily Monitor, a statement of facts filed with his plea agreement states that “Doumi girls generally work for a doumi company that employs multiple women and usually wait in apartments at night to receive a call for work. When a customer at a Korean business desires to have a female companion, that customer (or the business) will call a doumi company and request that the company send doumi girls to that business. Once at the business, the doumi girls sing and dance, flirt with, entertain, and pour drinks for the customer.”
