Fimian concedes election; Connolly released from hospital
In the official vote count reported by the Virginia State Board of Elections, Fimian trailed Connolly by 981 votes.
The Washington Post published Fimian’s statement on the election results: “After much discussion with friends and supporters, I have decided not to pursue a recount and not to further investigate possible discrepancies in the election results. Therefore I congratulate Congressman Connolly on his victory and send him good wishes as he moves forward to do the people’s business. For me, today is the end of this campaign.”
Meanwhile, Connolly has been released from the hospital and is resting comfortably at home, a spokesperson from his office announced last night. “During a routine exam by his physician late last week, Congressman Connolly experienced some discomfort and he checked into the hospital for some tests. While hospitalized, he was treated for a blood clot in an artery. All functions are now normal and he is prepared to go back to work for the people of Northern Virginia. Before returning to his Fairfax home, he stopped at his congressional district office in Annandale Monday to meet with staff.”
