Final occupational categories now eligible for COVID vaccine

Beginning today, April 7, individuals who live or work in the Fairfax Health District that fall into several more occupational categories are now eligible to register for a COVID-19 vaccine.

These are the last seven priority groups of essential workers in Phase 1c as outlined by the Virginia Department of Health. 

The newly added categories are:

• Finance
• Information technology and communication
• Media
• Legal services
• Public safety (engineers)
• Other public health workers
• Barbers, stylists, and hairdressers

Eligible people should register with the Fairfax Department of Health here. 

The Fairfax Health District includes Fairfax County, the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church, and the towns of Clifton, Herndon, and Vienna.

Employees should be prepared to show some form of work-related identification or paystub when they show up for their vaccination appointment.

Fairfax County expects to move into Phase 2 by April 18 in accordance with federal and state goals for the COVID vaccination rollout. Phase 2 includes everyone age 16 and up. 

The finance category includes people who work in accounting, insurance, management of companies, payroll services, securities, and tax preparation, among other jobs. See the full list here. 

The IT and communication category includes people who work in computer and office machine repair and maintenance, consumer electronics repair and maintenance, data centers, data processing, internet publishing, cellphone technicians, and software publishing. 

The legal services category covers lawyers, court reporters, and parole officers, as well as people who work in judicial systems.
