Fire at Bailey’s Crossroads high rise
An apartment fire in the 3700 block of S. George Mason Drive in Bailey’s Crossroads on July 14 was caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports.
The fire started on a couch in the living room of an apartment on the 16th floor of a 26-story building at Skyline Plaza. Units from the Arlington and Alexandria fire departments responded, as well as Fairfax County, at about 3:30 p.m.
One occupant was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She was the only one home at the time.
She pulled the fire alarm, then called the front desk to report the fire. There were no working fire alarms in the apartment. She declined Red Cross services. Damages were estimated at $7,000.
