A fire in a house in the 4000 block of David Lane in Bailey’s Crossroads was started by an “electrical event involving household wiring” in the attic, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports.

When fire units from Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax County arrived, shortly before 3 p.m. on Sept. 20, they found smoke and fire showing from the roof of the one-story, single-family home.

Two occupants who were home at the time were alerted by a neighbor who observed fire on the roof. Both occupants got out before the fire trucks arrived. Smoke alarms did not sound due to the location of the fire in the attic.

Damages were estimated at $60,000. The occupants declined assistance from the Red Cross
