A fire at a house in the 3700 block of Lacy Boulevard in Bailey’s Crossroads on Dec. 8 started in the chimney, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports.
When fire units arrived at the two-story, single-family home at 10:45 p.m., they found a fire in an upstairs bedroom.
Fire investigators determined the fire started in the flue lining of the chimney. It was caused by radiant heat from the wood-burning stove pipe inside the flue lining and extended to the interior walls of the bedroom.
There were no injuries. A smoke alarm alerted three occupants who called 911. They smelled something burning and saw smoke in the bedroom. The residents accepted assistance from the Red Cross. The fire caused approximately $37,500 in damages.
