A two-alarm fire at the Parliaments high-rise apartment building at about 12:30 p.m. March 30 started in a kitchen on the sixth floor, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports.

The nine-story building is on Eastmoreland Road in Annandale.

Fire investigators determined the fire was started when an oven pilot light ignited fugitive gases from a gas line that was being repaired in one apartment migrated into another apartment through a hole in the shared wall.

One of the apartments was unoccupied and under renovation. An occupant in the other unit called 911. Smoke alarms were activated after the fire was discovered. No one was injured or displaced. Damages were estimated at $93,750.

In addition to Fairfax County, units from the City of Alexandria and City of Fairfax responded to the fire.
