A fire swept through a townhouse in the
Pinecrest area just east of Annandale Nov. 15, causing approximately $93,750 in damages,
the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports.

Fire units from Fairfax County and Alexandria
were dispatched to the home, in the 6500 block of Zoysia Court, at about 8:22
p.m. Fire was showing from the rear of the home and had engulfed all three
floors and was extending to the attic area.

Fire investigators determined the fire was
accidental in nature and started within the fireplace chase at the terrace
level. Radiant heat from the firebox ignited the structural components within
the fireplace chase.
Two occupants were home at the
time and one of them discovered the fire and called 911. Smoke alarms activated
after the fire was discovered. The two occupants who were displaced declined
assistance from the Red Cross.

Terrible, probably poor construction or chimney not ventilating properly.
