Fire destroys house on Cherokee Avenue

A fire early Monday morning destroyed a house at 5201 Cherokee Ave., in the Alexandria area of Mason District.

When firefighters from Fairfax County and the City of Alexandria arrived at approximately 4:45 a.m., May 19, the rambler-style home was “fully involved with fire,” the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports.

Firefighters conducted an exterior fire attack using multiple hose lines. They brought the fire under control in 40 minutes and prevented it from spreading to nearby houses. No one was home when the fire broke out, and no one was injured. The house is a total loss.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental and was caused by “an electrical anomaly in the attic area.”
