Fire erupts in Annandale apartment
Updated July 20: Multiple people were rescued via ladders from a burning building today at Fairmont Gardens in the 4200 block of Wadsworth Court in Annandale, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department reports.
The fire started on the first floor of a garden-style apartment shortly before 11 a.m. A resident of a neighboring building discovered the fire after observing smoke coming from a second-floor bedroom window. No one was home in the apartment where the fire started.
Fire Investigators determined the fire was accidental and was caused by an electrical event involving an extension cord in a bedroom.
Approximately 11 occupants were in the building when the fire was discovered. A building resident activated the fire alarm pull station in the building. There were working smoke alarms in the unit of origin.
Six occupants were displaced from the building. All of them are being assisted by the Red Cross and property management. Damages as a result of the fire are estimated at $93,750.
There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
