Flags line neighborhood streets for Memorial Day
Realtor Vivianne Couts and her crew of some 30 volunteers put out
1,200 American flags on the curbs throughout the Broyhill Crest neighborhood in
Annandale Saturday morning.

This is the fourth year that Couts has organized a flag project
for the Memorial Day weekend. The volunteers, including one not quite two years
old, gathered for brunch in Couts’ backyard after the work.

This is the first time the flags didn’t have labels
advertising Cout’s Coldwell Banker real estate business, or as she puts it, there was no “flag-vertising.”
Why go to all that trouble? “It makes the neighborhood look
nice,” says Couts, “and it’s a good way to welcome summer.”

Couts also gives away hundreds of pies to neighbors on the
Fourth of July and pumpkins for Halloween and organizes a sock drive for the homeless in December.

This is a wonderful gesture from Vivianne Couts, and my family appreciates the patriotic display.
Beautiful.
And no one burned those, that is a good sign given our political climate.
