Fondling assaults could be linked

Fairfax County Police believe several
fondling cases in the Springfield area might be linked.

A 15-year-old girl reported being grabbed
from behind and fondled around 7:15 p.m., Oct. 2,  in the 6200 block of Hibbling Avenue in Springfield.
The girl was walking northbound on Hibbling near Exmore Street when the
incident occurred, police from the Franconia station reported. She pulled away from the suspect and fled.
Police are investigating the possibility that
that case could be linked to similar fondling incidents in the Springfield area
in September. In those cases, the suspect wore a plain, red baseball cap. None
of the victims required medical attention.

On Sept. 27, a 17-year-old girl was walking
on the sidewalk in the 5900 block of Erving Street at about 9 p.m. when someone
grabbed her from behind and fondled her. She described the suspect as either
Asian or Hispanic, mid 30s, around 5 feet 8 inches tall with a black, close-cut
beard, wearing a blue T-shirt and black cotton sweatpants with a white stripe
on each side.

On Sept. 18, a 16-year-old student was
walking on a path in the 6700 block of Metropolitan Center Drive in Springfield
around 2:45 p.m. when she was grabbed. The suspect fondled her and ran away.
He was described as Hispanic with a thin, black goatee or beard,
wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt.
A 26-year-old woman was
walking in the area of Old Keene Mill Road and Springfield Boulevard around
8:30 a.m., Sept. 7, when she heard a whistle. When she reached the 7200 block
of Monticello Boulevard,  a man grabbed her
from behind and fondled her and fled. She described the suspect as Hispanic
and around 5 feet 6 inches tall.
