Frame Factory fire blamed on wiring
The fire at The Frame Shop on the morning of Jan. 1 caused about three-quarters of a million dollars in damages, says owner Kurt Kruger, who also owns Kruger’s Antiques. The fire was apparently started in the electrical system and just about destroyed the entire store. Kruger’s office behind the Frame Shop was also damaged and can’t be used.
Sad story…the Cowan family has provided high quality framing services to the community for 30 years or more. I fear lots of personal keepsakes were lost in this fire that were waiting for framing.
According to the tax records Kruger is NOT the owner of this site, a person is NC is listed as such.
Sad is not a strong enough description for the loss I feel as a very long time resident of Annandale and client of the Frame Factory. In my home I am surrounded by 30+ years of collected original art from around the world all framed by the Factory and mostly by Patty, but going back to Jan and Fabio. The FF was my "local gallery/museum" to appreciate and buy some works of local artists that she attracted and supported and to whom I was introduced by her.
This loss leaves a huge cultural/artistic vacuum in the Annandale community. But, I cannot imagine the enormous loss it leaves for the Cowan family, their artists, clients and friends. I wish there was some way we could come together, demonstrate our support, and get them up and running as soon as possible.
As a close family friend to the Cowan family, I can not even begin to describe the feelings as a result of this tragedy. We are all still in disbelief that something like this happened. The Frame Factory, Patti and Steve Cowan, have been so great to the people and the community of Annandale. Lord willing, the Frame Factory of Annandale will be back, and the Cowan family will continue to offer their greatness to area.
I had items being framed at the Frame Factory when it burned. Who do I contact to find out if my pictures are gone? Contact [email protected]
Yea well you dont know what you are talking about Anonymous, your records are wrong.
The Frame Factory opened in Annandale on July 7, 1975. The fire on January 1, 2010 does appear to have been electrical. Our hope is to reopen in the same location. The Frame Factory has two other locations: 5700E General Washington Drive, Alexandria, VA 22312 (703)642-2323 and 212 Dominion Dr. Vienna, VA (703) 281-2350. The Annandale phone (703) 941-1256 has been transfered to the Alexandria location. Patti Cowan
It's good to hear that the Frame Factory could reopen at the same location. Keep us posted.
Wow! I used to work there. Hope you guys have recovered.
