Free consulting available for small businesses
Small businesses struggling financially could be eligible for free consulting services from Fairfax County worth up to $10,000.
The county’s Department of Economic Initiatives is opening a second round of Thrive funds. Applications will open on Jan. 16.
The first round of Thrive, which closed Dec. 21, provided assistance to 250 businesses. Applications will be accepted from another 350 businesses during the second round, Jan. 16-26.
Thrive is aimed at helping small companies grow and reach their business goals as they continue to recover from the Covid pandemic.
Businesses accepted for Thrive will have access to a network of industry experts who can help them streamline operations, enhance their marketing strategy, or implement other steps to improve their bottom line.
Business owners will be matched with a coach who will assess their needs and connect them with a consultant. The consultant will provide specialized training and services valued up to $10,000.
To be eligible, businesses must:
- have been in operation since 2021 or earlier,
- have less than 50 employees,
- be located in Fairfax County, and
- demonstrate a negative economic impact resulting from the pandemic.
To show they have suffered during the pandemic, businesses must have had a 5 percent decrease in gross revenue and a 10 percent decline in employees during that period.
Sole proprietors, LLCs, C corporations, and partnerships are eligible. Home-based businesses are eligible if they meet other criteria. Nonprofits are not eligible. If selected, businesses must submit their Business Professional and Occupational License.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors authorized $7 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to establish the Thrive program. The Latino Economic Development Center serves as the program grant administrator.
