Free summer concerts underway in the parks
We’re heading into the homestretch of summer, but the Starlight by Spotlight concerts in local parks are still going strong.
The free shows, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at the amphitheater in Mason District Park, feature various styles of music.
At the most recent show, Plunky & Oneness brought its unique blend of Afro-centric jazz and funk to the park.
The show on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Mason District Park features a mix of 1960s Jamaican ska and early British rock by The Fuss.
Good Shot Judy will bring big amp jazz to the park on Friday, and the Latin Ballet of Virginia will perform on Sunday. The series continues through Aug. 18.
On Saturday evenings, Ossian Hall Park on Heritage Drive in Annandale hosts performances from around the world. On Aug. 4, Santi Budaya will perform music and dance from Indonesia.
There are just two more shows at Ossian Hall Park – a Vietnamese chamber music ensemble on Aug. 10 and Chinese music and dance on Aug. 17.
On Saturdays at 10 a.m., there are children’s shows at Mason District Park and Wakefield Park.
