The Fairfax County
Public Schools’ Office of Food and Nutrition Services will provide free picnic-style
summer lunches for students on weekdays at 16 locations countywide.
for Every Child to Eat During Summer) program starts June 26 and runs through
Aug. 25.
The nutritious lunches will be available 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at three
schools and two other locations in the Annandale/Mason area:
- Bailey’s Elementary School (lower campus), 6111 Knollwood Drive, Falls
Church - Bren
Mar Park Elementary School, 6344
Beryl Road, Alexandria
- Stuart
High School, 3301 Peace Valley Lane, Falls Church - Graham
Road Community Center, 3036 Graham Road, Falls Church - Avant
Apartments, 7931 Patriot Drive, Annandale
There is no charge
for students 18 and under. Adults pay $2 per meal. Everyone is welcome.
Reservations are not necessary. The program will not operate on July 3 and 4.
Woods Elementary School on June 28 at 11 a.m. with a special appearance by
Virginia’s First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe.
The FEEDS program is funded by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture, and is in addition to the USDA’s Summer Meals for Kids Program for children age 5-18 who qualify for free and reduced-price meals during the
school year.
The Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services operates the USDA summer meals program in 29 locations, including the following sites in the Annandale/Mason District area:
- Bailey’s Community Center, 5920 Summers Lane, Falls Church, June 26-Aug. 25 – breakfast (8:30-9:30 a.m.) and lunch (12-1 p.m.)
- James Lee Community Center, 2855-A Annandale Road, Falls Church, June 26-Aug. 25 – breakfast (9-10 a.m.) and lunch 12-1 p.m. The James Lee Teen Center, at the same address, will also provide lunch (1:30-2:30 p.m.) June 26-Aug. 25.
- Lincolnia Community Center, 5130-B Lincoln Ave., Alexandria, July 10-Aug. 18 – breakfast (10-10:30 a.m.) and lunch (12:15-12:45 p.m.)
- Parliament Apartments, 7409 Eastmoreland Road, Annandale, June 26-Aug. 25 – lunch (12:30-2 p.m.)
- Wedgewood Apartments, 7615 Allman Drive, Annandale, June 26-Aug. 25 – lunch (12-1 p.m.)
- Willston Multicultural Center, 6131 Willston Drive, Seven Corners, June 26-Aug. 25 –breakfast (9-9:40 a.m.) and lunch (12-12:30 p.m.).
- Culmore Boys & Girls Club, 3400 Charles St., Falls Church, June 26-Aug. 18 – breakfast (8:15-9:15 a.m.) and lunch (11:15 a.m.-2:30 p.m.)

It's not the job of the government to feed school kids in the summertime. We should use this money to build the wall.

That's the spirit! While we're at it, lets give the school funding zealots a nod and require students who purchase their school lunches to pay a meals tax. After all, the social safety net only perpetuates dependence on government handouts.
Pretty broad sweeping statements there. Got to be a pretty cold person not to think that feeding goddamn kids over the summer is creating a welfare state. Who pissed in your cereal?
