Free tax help available in Mason District
Need some help with your taxes? The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is in full swing at the Mason Government Center.
This year, Tax-Aide volunteers are providing free tax help by appointment only. Walk-ins won’t be served. The service is free.
Taxpayers must obtain an information packet before calling for their appointment. The information packet can be downloaded here or picked up at the Mason Government Center at 6507 Columbia Pike, Annandale.
The packet includes information on what documents are needed, a list of the types of items AARP Tax-Aide cannot help with, a Covid-related benefits worksheet, and an intake interview sheet.
After completing the forms and gathering your documents, make an appointment by calling 571-303-9865 during the program’s operating hours.
The Tax-Aide program is available 1-8 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays; 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays.
During the appointment, taxpayers will drop off the completed information packet and their tax return documents and have a brief interview with an IRS-certified volunteer. They will then return for a second appointment the same day or at a later time.
Is this available to any resident or only people over a certain age?
