FreshFarm will operate a farmers market at Mosaic

The Mosaic District is not losing its farmers market after all, as we reported March 23 (erroneously, it turns out).
The Mosaic Central Farm Market, operated by Central Farm Markets, is moving to George Marshall High School as of April 7, as we said. But Mosaic will continue to have a farmers market – 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sundays along District Avenue – operated by FreshFarm.
Mosaic District’s FreshFarm market will feature more than 50 regional farmers, producers, and concessionaires selling fresh produce, meats, eggs, bread, cheese, baked goods, prepared foods, flowers, and more, says Sara Beckstead, communications manager at Edens, the owner of the Mosaic District.
Some of the vendors include Angelic Beef, Chase Your Tail Bakery, Foggy Mountain Pasta, King Mushrooms, Liberty Delight Farms, Rita’s Crepes, and Zeke’s Coffee.
FreshFarm, a D.C.-based nonprofit has 16 markets in the region, including Ballston, Crystal City, and Rosslyn.
FreshFarm has a producers-only requirement, meaning all products sold are grown, raised, or produced by the business selling them. Its markets prioritize local sourcing and support local agriculture.
The opening weekend of the FreshFarm Mosaic Market coincides with “Art Blooms at Mosaic,” a cherry blossom event in partnership with the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The farmers market will be open both days of the festival, April 6 and 7, and will subsequently operate on Sundays year-round.
The farmers markets operated by the Fairfax County Park Authority will open within the next few weeks. The market at Wakefield Park will be open on Wednesdays, 2-6 p.m., beginning April 17. The Annandale Farmers Market at Mason District Park will be held on Thursdays, 8 a.m.-noon, beginning May 2.
