Fuddruckers so far unaffected by corporate changes

It’s too soon to tell whether the sale of the Fuddruckers chain to Luby’s will have an impact on the Fuddruckers in Annandale, the site of many kids’ parties and sports team award ceremonies.
The Houston-based Luby’s Inc. operates 96 restaurants, most of them in Texas. Its purchase of all of the assets of Fuddruckers Inc. and Magic Brands LLC for about $62 million was announced June 18. Fuddruckers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection April 21.

Magic Brands, based in Austin, operates 62 Fuddruckers locations in 11 states. Another 135 Fuddruckers restaurants are operated by franchisees. The restaurants are known for their hamburgers made from fresh, “never-frozen beef”and “build your own burger” bars.
The manager of the Annandale Fudduckers, “Eric A.” (he refused to give his last name), says the restaurant (4300 Backlick Road) has so far been unaffected by the bankruptcy. That restaurant was owned by the corporation, not a franchisee. It is not among the 26 restaurants that Fuddruckers closed as part of its bankruptcy restructuring. Luby’s spokesperson Amy Fritzer says the company hasn’t made any decisions yet on what to do about the Fuddruckers restaurants.
