Parents planning to take advantage of the free back-to-school immunizations at
one of the Fairfax County health clinics should be aware that the Falls Church clinic, on Leesburg Pike, is closing permanently at noon, Aug. 23.

The health staff is relocating to Annandale, but the new clinic, in the
Heritage Center office building at 7611 Little River Turnpike (Suite 400E in
the East Wing) won’t open until Aug. 30, 8 a.m.

The Annandale clinic will be open 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Mondays and
Wednesdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Tuesdays, 7:30 a.m.-noon on Fridays, and by
appointment only on Thursdays. For fastest service, it’s best
to call for an appointment (703/534-8343). You’ll need to bring a copy of your
child’s immunization records.

To handle increased demand for immunizations, the Annandale clinic will be open for
extended hours on Friday, Aug. 31 (7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.) and Tuesday, Sept. 4 (8
a.m.-6 p.m.).

parts of the county, and you can always get immunizations from private health-care providers.

The Annandale clinic will offer free STD (sexually transmitted disease)
tests, including HIV tests, during regular clinic hours. It will also have an STD
walk-in clinic on Mondays, 1:30-3 p.m., starting Sept. 10.

In addition to the health clinic, the move from Falls Church to Annandale
involves about 400 employees of several county departments.

carried out in two phases. The Department of Family Services will move to the West Wing of the
Heritage Center Aug. 16-22, with the office opening scheduled for 8 a.m. on
Aug. 22. That office includes child protective services; adult protective
services; aging, disability, and caregiver resources; and short-term emergency
help with basic needs.
