Gallows Road bridge over Rt. 50 is getting a make-over

The public is invited to a meeting tomorrow night hosted by the Virginia Department of Transportation about plans to reconstruct the bridge on Gallows Road over Arlington Boulevard (Route 50).
The meeting is June 24, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Luther Jackson Middle School, at 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church.
The 128-foot-long, two simple-span, steel-plate girder bridge was built in 1985. The deck is cast-in-place concrete with precast concrete panels/forms. It accommodates three traffic lanes in each direction, two turning lanes, and a 13-foot-wide sidewalk.
“Based on the latest inspection report, the superstructure is in fair condition,” VDOT states. “There are areas of corrosion and section losses in the steel beams. The substructure is in poor condition due to significant concrete spalling on the pier cap and columns at both ends of the pier.”
According to a 2014 traffic analysis, an average of 39,000 vehicles drive across the bridge and 40,000 vehicles travel on Route 50 under the bridge every day.
Rehabilitating the bridge is expected to cost $2.6 million. Phase 1 – repairing the pier – would start in October 2015. Phase 2 – rehabilitating everything else – would start in June 2016.

That's pretty amazing that a nearly equal number of cars cross on Gallows as on Rt. 50. And SE-bound Gallows traffic has to go through a 2-lane reduction and 3 traffic lights in about half a mile. No wonder the traffic there is so bad.
This is outrageous, don't they have to give more than 21 hours notice of these meetings??? Or do they not to purposely prevent community input?
