Gallows Road repaving, bike lane striping to start in September

The Virginia Department of Transportation is expected to start repaving
Gallows Road between Columbia Pike and Annandale Road in September, weather
permitting.
As part of this process, the Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will implement new pavement markings to accommodate a center turn line, bicycle
lanes, and a painted median at the intersection of Gallows Road at Columbia
Pike, states a notice from Mason Supervisor Penny Gross.

The number of lanes will stay the same but will become narrower, says Chris Wells, director of bicycle and pedestrian programs at FCDOT. There is enough room to do that as that segment of Gallows is 60 feet wide.
The bike lanes will be toward the center, next to the parallel parking lanes at the curb.
Before the milling and repaving work starts, VDOT’s contractor will post
“no parking” signs along Gallows Road. During construction, drivers might
experience a temporary change in the traffic pattern along Gallows. The work
crews are expected to arrive at about 8 a.m. and leave about 4 p.m.
This project is part of VDOT’s summer paving program in Northern
Virginia. Many roads in the Annandale/Bailey’s Crossroads area have already
been repaved, according to a map on the VDOT website, and many more are
scheduled for repaving, including a large part of the Lake Barcroft area.

The proliferation of bike lanes is definitely increasing the visual appeal of our area.
Yes, but we need this bike lanes to connect to Arlington's and Alexandria as a means to commute to work. Thus far there are no really good and safe options.
Making Columbia Pike bike friendly all the way to Arlington (4 miles) would be a huge start. Continuing a bike friendly option on Gallows/Annandale Road all the way to Mosaic (4 miles) would be huge for the area. It would essentially make a big circle, so from the Aldi parking lot, you can bike to Mosaic/W&OD Trail via Gallows OR to Arlington/Four Mile Run Trail via Columbia Pike. Center of Annandale could be a destination for bikers coming from either direction looking to eat/shop if it's pedestrian friendly.
Intentionally putting bikes and cars on the same strip of pavement is the definition of an accident waiting to happen. It also increases traffic since bikes are generally much slower than the speed limit. Just a horrible proliferation of a bad idea. Condolences ahead of time to the families of dead bikers.
You are a crazy person
How about a campaign to improve the condition of the sidewalks? Keeping these areas clear is the responsibility of the homeowner and mostly neglected. The concrete condition is the responsibility of DOT. If we had better sidewalks, bikers and pedestrians could more safely avoid sharing the roads with automobiles. Homeowners — if your sidewalk is in poor condition, reach out to DOT and put in a workorder. Don't stack your trash and let your shrubs get overgrown.
i just want sidewalks.
